WMAC News
| 2 Mar 2010 | There will be a club night at 7:30pm on Tuesday 2nd March at the Barbourne Ex Servicemens Club. All are welcome and we hope to have someone speak on the why's and how's of electric powered models and to answer your questions. If you wish to sell any modelling related kit, models or accessories, then please bring it along. If there is anybody with kit then we'll try and make time to let you sell it. This is the first of these club nights and we need to see what works and what doesn't, so please come along and let us know what you'd like to see. |
| 19 Dec 2009 | Note that there is a shooting party on Saturday morning at Hanbury. Watch out for stray shooters and don't fly before 11:30pm in any case. |
| 16 Dec 2009 | The annual general meeting is scheduled for 8:00pm on Wednesday 16th Dec at the Barbourne Ex Servicemans Club. |
| 8 Dec 2009 | Please note that the Hanbury outfield and pits area is now pretty soft and we have been asked to tell members to please park your cars at the farm or silage store rather than in the pits. |
| 8 Dec 2009 | Rushwick is again pretty well unusable at the moment because of flooding. There are still areas of standing water, and the access track is very muddy and slippery. One member's car became stuck for a time on the bridle path last Sunday. Accordingly the committee have decided to make the Hanbury site available every day rather than only on alternate days. Given the time of year this arrangement will persist into our closure period Jan-Mar 2010. For those hardy souls that wish to continue using Rushwick until Dec 31st, you may still do so on even dates, but we would suggest Hanbury is the better option for now. |
| 21 Nov 2009 | Please note there is a shooting party taking place on Saturday morning at Hanbury. No flying until after 11:30am and then wait until the party is safely away. Shooting Dates |
| 7 Nov 2009 | Please note there is a shooting party taking place on Saturday morning at Hanbury. No flying until after 11:30am and then wait until the party is safely away. Shooting Dates |
| 15 Oct 2009 | Please note the dates when shooting parties take place at Hanbury have been posted. No flying until after 11:30am and then wait until the party is safely away. Shooting Dates |
| 6 Sep 2009 | The annual club barbecue has been rescheduled for Sunday September 6th. Let's hope that the weather is kinder this time. |
| 15 Aug 2009 | There are a series of events taking place at Hanbury over the Friday & Saturday 15th. So please finish flying at 4pm on the Saturday to avoid problems with the hundreds of people and cars expected to be arriving. |
| 2 Aug 2009 | The annual club barbecue planned for August 2nd has been postponed due to the wet weather. The already wet site has been under heavy rain for several days and is expected to suffer more over the next few days. So regretfully we have decided to postpone the BBQ until a later date. |
| 14 Jun 2009 | The motorcycle scramble meeting at Rushwick on the 14th June has been cancelled at short notice since that field is too muddy. However our flying field is fine and freshly mowed, so flying is again available as normal on Sunday. |
| 26 Jul 2009 | There is a motorcycle scramble meeting at Rushwick on the 26th July, so for safety reasons no flying can take place there on that day. Members who wish may fly at Hanbury instead on the 26th. |
| 14 Jun 2009 | There is a motorcycle scramble meeting at Rushwick on the 14th June, so for safety reasons no flying can take place there on that day. Members who wish to fly on the 14th may do so at Hanbury instead. |
| 2 Aug 2009 | The annual club barbecue (see newsletter) has been arranged for August 2nd at Hanbury. As you know it is a special occasion for the club this year as it's our centenary year. We'd like as many members and their families to come as possible and to that end would much appreciate it if you could let us know in advance if you intend to be there. It will help us plan on the food quantities and any toilet facilities needed. |
| 21 May 2009 | As indicated in our last newsletter we have obtained agreement to reduce the height of the large tree at the end of the runway at Rushwick. Together with Graham Campbells help I have now reduced it's height to that of the level of the rest of the hedge line. Also I have cut back the fresh growth from the stumps of the trees felled a few years ago. The result is a dramatic improvement in visibility for those occasions when the wind direction forces a landing from our neighbours property. Hopefully we'll get a chance to try it this Bank holiday weekend. |
| 1 Apr 2009 | Rushwick is now open as normal from April 1st. |
| 17 Dec 2008 | We will hold our club AGM on 17th Dec 7:30 pm at the Barbourne Ex-Servicemans Club near the Swan Theatre. Prospective new members are welcome to attend, although of course you may not vote! We'd be grateful if you would renew your club membership at the same time too! |
| 15 Nov 2008 | Rushwick is pretty well unusable at the moment because of flooding. There are still large areas of standing water, and the access track is very muddy and slippery. Accordingly the committee have decided to make the Hanbury site available every day rather than only on alternate days. Given the time of year these conditions may well persist into our closure period Jan-Mar. For those hardy souls that wish to continue using Rushwick, you may still do so on alternate days, but we would suggest Hanbury is the better option for now. Also please note that the Hanbury outfield is now pretty wet so please park your cars at the farm rather than in the pits. |
| 21 Sep 2008 | We had another very successful barbeque day on Sunday. Many thanks to all those who helped to organise the event, and also to the many who attended. See here for more details. |
| 19 Sep 2008 | After a dry week and a LOT of mowing this evening, Rushwick now has a usable strip again. The runway remains soft but the grass is fairly short. It should be fine for tomorrow (Saturday) and access via the drive is also good.. |
| 16 Sep 2008 | Rushwick is usable at the moment for hand launch and large wheeled models, but remains too wet to mow. I will advise as soon as it dries sufficiently to be able to mow the strip. |
| 14 Sep 2008 | The 2008 club barbeque spectacular will be held at Hanbury on the 14th September. The last one in 2006 was very successful and the same team are organising this one. We've already booked the same weather too! |
| 1 Jul 2008 | The saga of the motorcycle meet at Rushwick on the 6st July continues. This date has now also been cancelled, so as of today there are no further even dates with motorcycle meetings booked. |
| 22 Jun 2008 | It seems that the rescheduled motorcycle meet on the 22nd has been re-rescheduled to the 6th July. If on this occasion you'd rather fly instead at Rushwick on Saturday 5th, then please do so, otherwise Hanbury will be open for flying on Sunday. We apologise for the short notice, but don't of course have the power of veto! |
| 22 Jun 2008 | There is a motorcycle meet at Rushwick on the 22nd June, so for safety reasons please don't fly there that day. Instead Hanbury is open for flying on Sunday or if you prefer Rushwick will be available on the Saturday. |
| 1 Apr 2008 | As from the 1st Rushwick is open as usual on even days. Please note that we return to alternate days at Rushwick & Hanbury. |
| 18 Oct 2007 | Please note the club AGM will be held at the Barbourne Ex-Servicemans club at 8pm on the 12th Dec. All members welcome including prospective new members. |
| 14 Oct 2007 | Please note the new shooting party exceptions to flying dates at Hanbury. |
| 5 Oct 2007 | We've received a complaint from the farmers wife at the neighbouring farm visible looking directly down the runway. The complaint isn't about noise but regards overflying her land and property. There is no conceivable reason to overfly her buildings given their distance, but she understands and accepts our need to land into wind. Please remember to completely avoid her field adjacent to ours at all times during routine flying, and try your utmost to keep any incursion to the absolute minimum during landing. If you have any doubts over the geography please consult a member of the committee. |
| 24 Sep 2007 | We've received a notification from the BMFA announcing an indoor flying venue at Bishop Perowne College - take a look here. |
| 10 Aug 2007 | Foot & mouth: There are no access restrictions in force at either of our two flying sites and the farmers are happy for us to use the fields. However it goes without saying that if you have driven on farmland anywhere near the current outbreak restriction zone during the last two weeks then please stay away. Both sites are dry and parking is permitted in the pit area. |
| 1 Aug 2007 | The recent dry spell has allowed the site at Rushwick to fully drain and dry out. I've mown today and the site is again available for use. Access has dried out too apart from the sheep poo! Hanbury is also fully operational so we will now revert to the normal alternate day site usage. |
| 23 Jul 2007 | Once again the terrible flooding in Hereford & Worcester has resulted in the Rushwick site being under water. It may be some time before we can get the strip in usable condition, so until then the committee has arranged that Hanbury may be used 7 days a week with the usual time restrictions. |
| 10 Jul 2007 | Although we did manage some restricted flying on Sunday with either larger models or hand launches, it was still too wet to mow. However the site has now dried sufficiently and I have been able to mow today. Access is now fine and the runway quite usable and should accomodate all models. |
| 5 Jul 2007 | With the awful flying weather we've had over the last few months the Rushwick site has been under water. Although the floods have now receded the ground remains very wet and I have been unable to mow there for some considerable time. As of today that remains the case, so it is unlikely we shall be able to fly there this weekend. Oh, and Woodspring Wings is cancelled for this weekend due to flooding too! |
| 3 Dec 2006 | Just a reminder to all members that we hold our AGM on Tuesday 12th December at the Barbourne Ex Servicemens Club at 8pm, so please try and attend to have your say. Prospective new members are also very welcome although of course you won't be able to vote. |
| 30 Oct 2006 | We held an EGM on the 30th to discuss the purchase of two new mowers to replace our broken ones. The motion to sell our banks windfall shares to pay for them was carried and we have negotiated a special price that will be honoured when we actually need them early next year. Probably in sympathy with the Hanbury mower, the Rushwick one bit the ground just before our EGM and has terminally damaged the cutter plate. Hence the need to replace them both. Members may view meeting minutes on the members only page. |
| 17 Sep 2006 | We had our very successful barbeque day on Sunday. Many thanks to all those who helped to organise the event, and also to the many who attended. See here for more details. |
